Presentation of the German Ship Suppliers Association

The German Ship Suppliers Association represents the interests of the ship supply industry and companies involved in tax-free trade throughout Germany vis-à-vis all government authorities at regional and national level. In this article, The Association presents its objectives and history, its publication of the German Shipsuppliers Register and what issues matter to them

The German Ship Suppliers Association represents the interests of the ship supply industry and companies involved in tax-free trade throughout Germany vis-à-vis all government authorities at regional and national level. It advises and informs members on all commercial issues, on current topics, individually and via its monthly newsletters and endeavours to improve the knowledge of the general public on ship supplying, in general, and, particularly, to enhance the good reputation of the German ship suppliers. It, therefore, attaches great importance to the membership of reputed companies with a long tradition and experience in the business.

The Association founded in 1947, still located in Hamburg, runs a professional office with a permanent secretary and an assistant. With a long tradition behind it, the Association has today about 130 members, such as general ship suppliers, specialized ship suppliers in food and beverages, manufacturers, wholesalers, duty free shops, stores on cruise ships and freight forwarders. Beside national lobby work, individual service and consulting on legal, fiscal and marketing matters are also provided. Special working groups check legal and other maritime matters and provide the results to Association members. Intensive support is provided to its parent organisations OCEAN and ISSA. Lobby work at European level is done by OCEAN, at international level by ISSA.

In August 2015, our Association published the 43rd edition of its annual German Shipsuppliers Register containing information on 135 ship store merchants in 23 different German cities, national and international advertisements and entries of some specialized maritime lawyers, too. An online reading version is published on the Association web site www.shipsuppliers.de and a print version can be ordered via the Association office. Advertisements are open to everybody. For more information, please contact the Association office.

Two important current Association matters are the new Unions Customs Code (UCC) and the ongoing reform of the German customs authorities.
